Configuring Norton Internet Security to Work With PestPatrol
When Norton Internet Security is running, PPUpdater needs to be granted access to successfully pass through this firewall. This can be enabled by manually pre-configuring access to prevent PPUpdater from being blocked when it tries to contact the Internet.
Pre-configuring Access with Manual Program Control
Open Norton Internet Security and ensure you are logged in as 'Supervisor'. Click on the 'Personal Firewall' section on the main page, then select 'Configure' to access the Program Control page. (See Figure 1)
Figure 1
Choose the 'Program Control' tab to access Manual Program Control options. To manually configure access for PPUpdater, Click the 'Add' button. (See Figure 2)
Figure 2
Clicking 'Add' launches the 'Select a program' screen. (See figure 3) Navigate to the location of your PestPatrol folder and open this folder. Now click once on PPUpdater.exe to highlight it, then click the 'Open' button.
Figure 3
Next you will see a pop up for Program Control asking "what do you want to do" when this program asks for access? Select 'Permit' from the drop down menu, then click OK. (See Figure 4)
Figure 4
Next, you will be asked to choose a category. (See figure 5) This category is relevant if you have Parental Controls enabled, and a child or teenager using your computer is likely to attempt to run PPUpdater. You may choose a category appropriate to your needs.

Access to the Internet for PPUpdater.exe is now pre-configured. Please note, if PPUpdater is subsequently updated to a newer version, Norton Internet Security will identify that the program has changed and this rule will become redundant and require reconfiguring.
