Configuring ZoneAlarm to Work With PestPatrol
Firewall Settings Main Firewall Page
The following ZoneAlarm adjustments may be configured to the user's requirements, or preferences, and will not impact a PestPatrol update.
Internet Zone Security: This is a user set preference, which may be adjusted to meet user, program, or site-specific requirements. This setting has no impact on the PestPatrol standard HTTP protocol update process.
Trusted Zone Security: This is a user set preference, which may be adjusted to meet user, program, or site-specific requirements. This setting has no impact on the PestPatrol standard HTTP protocol update process.

Blocked Zone SecurityBlocked Zone Security: This area contains various user preference settings. Two of these settings will influence the ability of the PestPatrol program to perform the update process. (See Figure 2)
Advanced Settings:
- Block Local Servers – unchecked – This setting takes priority over program panel settings and will prevent all software programs installed on your computer from functioning as a server in the “Trusted Zone”.
- Block Internet Servers – unchecked – This setting takes priority over program panel settings and will prevent all software programs installed on your computer from functioning as a server in the “Internet Zone”.
PestPatrol uses the standard Internet HTTP protocol to connect to the update servers to update your PestPatrol program files and detection strings. Updating your PestPatrol program files requires a server connection. If blocked (checked)m PestPatrol cannot be updated using PPUpdater. Even manually downloading the files may not succeed if both boxes are checked, as some Internet program will need to act as a server to download the necessary updates.

PestPatrol components may either be checked (to allow), or marked with a question mark (ask permission). If checked, Internet connections will occur automatically without further warning or user input by ZoneAlarm. This setting is more efficient, but you might prefer to respond to all connection requests. Those who use the PestPatrol's “sendmail” feature to submit scan logs or update logs for review will need to follow these settings.

A right click of your mouse button will offer several more options. Because PPUpdater.exe frequently changes, you should tell ZoneAlarm to authenticate it by full path name only. This option is designed for programs that are changed frequently. (See figure 4)
